6.5 TONNE CHASSIS

TO CARRY 2 HORSES OR 3 PONIES WITH LIVING

This design is based on the Renault Mascott chassis and is a truly versatile vehicle.  It proves itself to be a great compromise between the 3.5 and 7.5 tonne chassis.   It is large enough to provide all the facilities of its larger 7.5 tonne cousin yet is easier to drive being very similar to the small 3.5 tonne chassis and has the added advantage of having a better carrying capacity than either alternative.  This really is the perfect vehicle for a lady driver or for anyone wanting a little bit more room and luxury than that  provided by the 3.5 tonne model.

Layout is very flexible, we have built both rear loading versions with the horses travelling on the herringbone and also a side loading version where the horses travel rear facing.

A low chassis provides a very stable base and means a nice low hydraulic ramp, combined with a light and airy interior it provides an inviting environment.  Another added advantage is that they are easy to maintain without the need for a tilt cab.

CONVENTIONAL DESIGN:  With the horses housed at the rear on the vehicle, travelling on the herringbone, the living area can be designed to suit individual requirements.  If stalled for 2 large horses it is still possible to fit a separate toilet/tack room into the living area along with all the other standard kitchen fittings of hob, cooker, sink and fridge plus wardrobe, seating etc.  The luton area is large enough for a queen sized mattress providing ample facilities for an overnight stay.

REAR FACING DESIGN:  The horses are loaded via a side ramp which is hydraulically powered.  They are positioned at the rear of the cab, thus travelling between the two axles which ensures a comfortable ride.  As with the 3.5 tonne version of this design the full sized partition can have a head board which turns and locks into position once the first horse is loaded.  The area of the luton can either be enclosed for storage or left open to use as a sleppeing area.  The area under the horses heads is accessed through a door in the solid breast bar wall, this area can be utilized for tack storage with lockers that can have either internal or external doors.

From the horse area a sliding door leads into a compact living which can be fitted out to suit the individuals requirements but is again large enough to include a small toilet/shower room if needed.

Water is provided from a tank which is built under the chassis and pumped to both the living area and also to a horse shower which can be housed in one of the skirt lockers.
